CNO Financial Group Symfony PHP Developer, Enterprise/OpenAPI - Remote for Candidates in US based Central or Eastern Time Zone in Orlando, Florida
Optavise, a CNO Financial Group Company is seeking a Developer to complete small to medium sized projects with low to moderate supervision. Often the source of advice, the Developer will offer thought leadership to achieve strategies and objectives and resolve impediments. This role should be motivated and ready to mentor newer peers. The Developer role will have an agile mindset and leverage the companies Software Development Life Cycle “SDLC” process. The Developer will have Domain logic necessary to code, design and improve the architecture and stability of the product. The role will be an embedded member of a team alongside other software developers, business/systems analysts, product owners and quality assurance testers. This role works closely with peer developers and lead.

As a Developer, your responsibilities will include:
Perform standard programming tasks, unit testing, contribute to functional specifications, participates in code reviews, and provide guidance to newer developers
Write functional specifications for small to medium features: sustaining Application Programming Interfaces (API), integrating basic API packages, creating internal reports and single app defined features
Perform Analysis Code Review for compliance and coding standards for lower peer pull request
Continuous learning and delivery of work assignments, programming coding standards, code repository design patterns, new tools and processes when required
Show awareness of technical debt and proactively seek opportunities reduce debt/costs
Navigate designated Integrated Development Environment (IDE) and have memorized the shortcut keys for most frequent operations speeding up the time to deliver work.
Learn and maintain best practices as adding to the code repository.
Understand scope of features, product components, code design patterns
Change Management for work completed to help determine software capitalization and document developer notes to help BA with technical specifications and QA to determine test coverages.
Meet or exceed the delivery timelines/expectations for the project (e.g., deliver on committed work within the sprint) and continuously improve on estimation skills.
Domain SME of 1 or more products/components.
The Developer position is well-suited for you if you:
Proficient Programming Language and Standards Model-view-controller (MVC) Architectural Patterns, preferably Symfony framework expertise
Well-versed in using database views, stored procedures, and triggers.
Adept in the object-relational mapping technique (ORM).
Know index syntax to create custom clustered and non-clustered indexes Seasoned professional with creativity in wide range of technical areas. Subject Matter Expert (SME) in at least one component and knowledge in most. Must have good communication skills and be able to share any impediments or blockers to committed sprint work deadlines and/or possible process improvements.
Demonstrate good time management skills to perform a variety of tasks, manage competing priorities, and complete tasks on-time in a fast-moving environment while meeting (sprint) deadlines. Interest and aptitude to be a quick learner especially in areas of product training and mentoring, advance programming concepts, practice, and procedures.
Enjoy being a problem solver and able to resolve issues effectively.
What you’ll need:
Typically requires a High School Diploma or 2 years of directly related experience.
Minimum of 3 years of experience programming.
Minimum of 1 year experience with benefits administration domain expertise
Proficiency with Debuggers.
Immediate knowledge with source control, issue tracking systems.
Proficiency with engineering and programming foundations (frameworks and APIs) to write clearer and shorter code.
Proficiency managing database (DB) design techniques and able to query the database(s). Design normalized DB schemas while considering the queries that will be issued.
What will set you apart:
Bachelor’s Degrees in computer science, mathematics, or information systems, as well as the knowledge of the major programming language or equivalent.
5 years of experience programming.
This role is full time work from home (WFH), also known as Remote. This role can be performed from any US based location within the central or eastern time zone. Work cannot be performed from outside of the United States.
Associates who live within a 60-mile radius of a corporate office (Birmingham, Carmel, Chicago, Philadelphia, Orlando and Milwaukee) have access to come into that Office up to 2 days/week and are encouraged to come into the office at least twice per month.
